The Dräng (Single Male Farmhand)

Much of what was written about a piga also applies to a dräng. There were a few differences, though. Farmhands would often be provided with makeshift beds located in the barn. They worked shorter hours than the maids, waking later, having a break before the evening meal, and having evenings off.

Part of their compensation was often in the form of brännvin (brandy) and/or beer. For some, alcohol made up a significant portion of their pay. And generally a farmhand had to work for more years than a maid in order to save enough money to acquire a wife, a torp, and set up a household.
